Chapter Philanthropy

The Lambda Epsilon Chapter finds it super important and fun to support each of our five philanthropies! Our five philanthropies spell out S-I-G-M-A and are the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Sea Coast Mission, and the Alzheimer's Association. Throughout each semester we do numerous activities to be able to donate and raise awareness for our philanthropies! Giving back is one of the ways we live one heart one way!

Alzheimer's Walk, The Walk to End Alz

Each and every year our chapter participates in our local Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease. It is a very special ceremony and tradition that emphasizes the importance of funding research to find a cure to this condition that affects so many loved ones. Our chapter has been recognized as a top donor and supporter of the event for continuous years! We love participating and being able to support such an important cause, as well as always lending a shoulder to all of our sisters who have had loved ones diagnosed with this tragic disease. We believe that Memories Matter!

Beach Clean-ups

A fun way we enjoy raising awareness and supporting another one of our philanthropies, Inherit the Earth, is by doing annual beach clean-ups. Taking care of our community and ecosystems is super important to us. These cleanups are especially rewarding because we get to see the direct impact we can have to our planet! It is also a fun excuse for a sisterhood beach day after we finish cleaning up!

Nursing Home Visits

Another thing our chapter loves doing are kind things for our local nursing homes! Typically each semester we like to schedule several nursing home visits to interact and play games with the residents. Activities that we have done in the past include BINGO nights, movie viewings, and charades! However with COVID-19, we unfortunately could not makes visits to the nursing home, although we still took the time to write lovely Halloween and Valentine's Day cards for them! We plan to continue making visits to our elderly friends as soon as it is safe to do so! We have also recently been making cards for nursing homes, we recently did this during this spring semester for Valentine's Day!

Snack Sales

Our chapter has planned several snack and bake sale events! These are great because we can alternate between the different philanthropies we decide to raise money for. Usually our tables are set up in Cougar Mall and students and faculty are able to stop by and purchase some yummy treats!
